COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- News Update: Dougherty siblings caught in southern Colorado.
The nationwide manhunt for the Dougherty siblings continues.
Around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report that three people matching their descriptions were spotted in the area of Woodmen Road and I-25 in north Colorado Springs.
Ryan Dougherty, Dylan Dougherty-Stanley, and Lee-Grace Dougherty are connected to crimes in Florida and Georgia including a bank robbery, and firing shots at a police officer.
Police said they do not know for certain if the people spotted are the suspects, but they are encouraging all residents to be on the lookout.
"We are working in conjunction with the FBI to determine whether or not this indeed was the Dougherty trio, but at this point the information leads us to believe it was, so we are taking all the necessary precautions," Sgt. Steve Noblitt with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
Noblitt said the fugitives may be driving a white Subaru Impreza with Texas license plates.
He said the FBI believes the trio has several weapons with them, and added Ryan Dougherty has 14 felonies arrests on his record.
"Certainly the most important thing here is if they spot these folks call 911, do not approach them, do not go anywhere near them," Noblitt said.
Why the trio would be in Colorado Springs, police did not say.
"These very dangerous people could very well be right here in our own backyard, so be on the lookout, report anything suspicious, and take a good look at the photos and the car they may be driving," Noblitt said.
Whether they are in Colorado or not, authorities said the suspects have the potential to do a lot of harm.
As for who called the tip into police, that also has not been released.
