DENVER (AP) -- The parents of a Fort Carson soldier shot and killed in Denver are asking the public for help in solving the case.

Twenty-five-year-old Anthony Silva was shot early Saturday near the motel where he was staying. He was about to be discharged from the Army and was waiting to meet his father so they could drive back to his hometown of Columbia, Ill.

Dave and Diane Silva held a press conference in Denver on Tuesday to talk about their son's slaying.

The Denver Post reports that Silva was last seen walking his dog and cat near the motel but police don't believe his pets were with him when he was shot.

Silva served in Korea but his mother said a back injury kept him from then being sent to Afghanistan.
