DENVER -- Denver Police officers said a Fort Carson soldier who was about to be discharged was shot and killed while walking his dog near a motel where he was staying.

Authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Anthony Silva.

The Denver medical examiner said he was killed early Saturday by multiple gunshots.

Silva was stationed at Fort Carson and originally from Columbia, Ill.
