COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers have arrested a man who allegedly tried to assault two people, then escaped a hospital, broke into a home and assaulted the homeowner early Friday morning.

According to officers, 21-year-old Dustin Hein tried to assault two people near the intersection of Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs around 12:44 a.m. Friday, but the two victims defended themselves by knocking him to the ground. Officers arrived and arrested Hein for disorderly conduct, and medical officials transported him to Penrose Main Hospital.

Hein managed to escape from the hospital before officers arrived to serve him his summons.

Shortly thereafter, police got a call about a man who was on a roof on Jackson Street, which is near Penrose. Officers said Hein ran through several backyards when they tried locating him.\

Around 2:39 a.m., officers got a call about a man matching Hein's description who had broken into a house on East Van Buren Street and assaulted the homeowner. He then ran out of the home and down an alley.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area with two K9 units and found Hein near the intersection of Nevada Avenue and Fillmore Street.

Hein was arrested for first degree burglary in addition to the disorderly conduct charge.
