PUEBLO, COLO. -- Power was restored to a large chunk of Southern Colorado Thursday morning.

The outage, which struck Wednesday night stretched from Canon City to the Kansas border and from Pueblo south to New Mexico.

Black Hill Energy said about 54,000 customers were affected.

Xcel Energy said a wind and lightning storm near a power substation had damaged transmission lines causing the surge that knocked out generators at the Comanche Plant near Pueblo.
