COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers are looking for one or more suspects who stole an airmen medal belonging to a World War II veteran back on May 31.
Police said the victim, 87-year-old Franklin Macon, is a former member of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first group of black airmen fighting for the American military. The suspect stole Macon's Congressional Tuskegee Airmen Medal during the burglary.
"The door had been kicked in and the frame of the door was on the living room floor. I was like, 'we had a break-in,'" Macon said.
The medal is extremely rare and is of great personal value. It is made of bronze and depicts the airmen on the front, and three aircrafts on the back.
The suspect(s) also stole coins in old ammo cans valued at $400 and a laptop computer.
Police found the front door to Macon's house in the 300 block of North Spruce Street had been forced open. Investigators determined someone forced entry between 8 a.m. and noon while Macon was away.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them, as they want Macon's prestigious medal returned to him.
"Returning my medal is something I would appreciate," Macon said.
