COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Shock and disappointment - that's the reaction from Colorado Springs District 11 school officials after 30-year-old Josh Carrier was arrested for being in possession of child pornography. Carrier, a Colorado Springs police officer, was a seven year veteran with the Colorado Springs Police Department and a Horace Mann Middle School Resource Officer. He's facing a class four felony charge.
"Kinda surprised me because I never thought a police officer would do that," Jazzaray Tinder, who's sister goes to Mann M.S., said said.
Officer Carrier worked at the school from 2009 to 2010. Budget cuts discontinued the SRO program, but Carrier continued to serve as a volunteer at the school. He was also a coach for the Police Athletic League and an advisor in CSPD's Explorer program. Carrier also worked at Mind Seizure, a local haunted house.
"I was shocked and very disappointed and upset that this happened," Elaine Naleski, District 11 Communications Director, said. "Then immediately began to think, how are we going to deal with the students?"
CSPD are still investigating but believe Officer Carrier did not act inappropriately with any kids. They also believe his activities are limited to the purchasing of commercial child pornography photos.
