DENVER (AP) -- Colorado House lawmakers will debate a deal that would add another $90 million to school districts that have been the target of massive cuts.

Lawmakers say the proposal to be presented Thursday is possible because preliminary revenue forecasts are higher than expected.

House Democratic Leader Sal Pace tells The Associated Press the deal would immediately add $22.5 million to school districts. Pace says another $67.5 million would be disbursed to the neediest schools in the fall based on school enrollment and other factors.

House Republican Tom Massey is sponsoring the school spending bill and has been one of the leaders in the negotiations.

Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper initially proposed a $332 million cut to education funding next year but lawmakers reduced that to $250 million. The new deal would further reduce the cut to $160 million.
