COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking the community for help in finding a missing woman.

Police believe 51-year-old Deborah Ann Heriford was last seen near her home in the 2700 block of Maroon Bells Avenue near Academy Boulevard and Vickers Drive.

Police said the last time anyone heard from Heriford was Thursday.

They said her family became worried when they did not hear from her for a couple of days, and reported her missing on Sunday.

"Some things that concern us are all of her vehicles are accounted for, so there is not a missing vehicle we can say be on the lookout for, and we have no information she went on vacation or took a trip," Sgt. Darrin Abbink with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

Abbink said Heriford lives with her dog, who was found wandering the neighborhood over the weekend.

In an effort to find clues as to where Heriford might be, he said detectives with Major Crimes are searching her home.

"We certainly hope in any case that we are going to find the person okay, that is always our hope," Abbink said. "But we have to treat it as worst case scenario from the very beginning just in case it turns out to be that worst case, then our evidence is in line."

So far Abbink said investigators have found no signs of foul play or forced entry at Heriford's home.

He said she does not have any serious medical conditions that they are aware of.

"We are out here in the neighborhood, going door to door talking to folks to see if anything unusual has happened in the area lately." Abbink said. "There is a possibility search and rescue may be called out to start checking the neighborhood."

In the meantime neighbors are hoping for the best.

"I saw the crime lab and was kind of scared, I did not know what was going on," neighbor Kjersti Nayar said. "I hope she is found and she is ok."

Heriford is described as a white, 5'4," and 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Academy School District 20 confirmed she is a crossing guard for their Discovery Canyon Campus in the elementary area.

Heriford is also a member of Vista Grande Baptist Church, which has put out a prayer request for her safe return.

Anyone with information on Heriford's whereabouts is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.

You can also text CSPD your tip to 847411 or TIP411.
