COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs police have a man in custody following a bank robbery Wednesday morning.
Police said 50-year-old Gullick Springen of Colorado Springs robbed the Wells Fargo bank in the 1800 block of S. Nevada Avenue just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Springen was taken into custody around 9:55 a.m. after police spotted a man walking down Nevada matching the description bank employees gave police.
Police said Springen did get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, but employees did not see a weapon.
This is the latest in a string of area bank robberies dating bank to Dec. 28.
On Dec. 28, a man robbed the Academy Bank in the 2800 block of N. Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs. The suspect in that robbery had a gun and left on foot with cash.
That same man is suspected robbing three other banks since. On Jan. 10, he robbed American National Bank in the 4100 block of Royal Fine Drive. He robbed the TCF bank in the 5400 block of E. Woodman Road Jan. 15, and on Jan. 22, he robbed the TCF bank in the 4300 block of N. Academy Boulevard.
Police said the man is dangerous and may be military-trained.
On Jan. 21, a man with a gun attempted to rob Colorado Capital Bank in the 10 block of S. Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs but didn't get away with any cash. The man appeared to have been scared off by activity inside the bank.
On Feb. 1, a man robbed People's National Bank in the 6800 block of Mesa Ridge Parkway in Fountain, Colo. just south of Colorado Springs. That man was also armed, but police did not say he was the same man who robbed the four Colorado Springs banks.
Sgt. Steve Noblitt with the Colorado Springs Police Department acknowledged bank robberies have increased recently but said police have been able to locate a good portion of the robbers and take them into custody. According to Noblitt, there have been seven bank robberies in Colorado Springs this year, and three of them have been cleared with arrest.
