COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- If you are one of the many Americans who have been out of work for a long time, maybe it is time to change up your job searching technique.

Career Coach Meredith Masse, MPower Consulting, was on FOX21 Morning News with some advice.

Masse says the new year is a great time to refresh and refocus.

"If what you are doing isn't working," says Masse, "change it up!"

Here are three tips for powering up your job search today:

Narrow Your Search
-Stop applying for jobs you don't want.
-Ask yourself: what do I really offer?
-Focus time on getting the job(s) you're most qualified for!

Re-Evaluate Your Skills
-Qualifications don't match exactly?
-Get the skills you need.
-Work with an experienced resume writer.

Do Something New
-Job searching online? Try working with a recruiter.
-Sending resumes only for advertised openings? Do informational interviews
-Waiting for the right job to appear? Get out and network and make it happen!
