COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An attempted bank robbery by a man with a gun failed when the man didn't get away with any cash.

Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob the Colorado Capital Bank in the 0 block of South Cascade Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs around 9:04 a.m. Friday.

Witnesses told Colorado Springs police the man had a gun, possibly a 9 mm handgun.

Witnesses said the man is white with a thin build and is about 5'8".  He wore all black clothing, a black stocking cap and a black hoodie with white letters. He may have had black face paint and a black bandana as well.

A K-9 officer and Violent Crimes Robbery Unit detectives are conducting an investigation. They said the man did not steal any cash and appeared to have been scared off by activity in the bank before he could get any.  He initially demanded cash but fled the scene before police arrived.

Police said the man in the photo included with this story was behaving suspiciously at the bank in December. He is a person of interest but not considered a suspect right now.

Contact police if you have any information.
