COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado College held several events Monday to commemorate civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr.

A special breakfast was held featuring guest speakers, inspirational readings, and a gospel choir. The chapel at CC held a special candle lighting ceremony while King's "I Have a Dream" speech was played.

Roger Smith organized the events. He recognizes the progress society has made since King's legacy, but he also realizes there is more ground to cover to unify and give appropriate equality to society. Rochelle Mason, also with Colorado College, says that Dr. King crossed many barriers in his works, and that he brought to light many issues which helped to unite people.

In addition to the activities at Colorado College, other special events like a rodeo was held along with marches from Denver to Durango commemorating the special holiday.
