FALCON, COLO. -- A school board meeting got so heated Thursday, El Paso County deputies have to come in to keep the peace.
Thursday night School District 49 held a school board meeting to talk about the possibility of cutting bus service to all but special education students.
The board voted to cut the bus service and will take up the matter again in February while they consider alternatives for students.
D-49 officials said cut school bus service to make up for an expected $4 million shortfall.
Dozens of parents crammed the board room to overflowing, and El Paso County deputies showed up at the end of the bitter meeting and escorted some D-49 employees to their cars.
Some parents said they don't know what they will do if their kids can't take the bus to school.
"It looks like the only option is I will have to pay extra for my kids to ride the bus, but I don't really have any other choice," parent Lea Wallace said. "I'd have to give up my job, and I don't want to do that. I can't afford to do that."
D-49 said they may consider having a private company take over the school bus service, but voters might have to approve a tax increase to pay for that.
