EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. (AP) -- El Paso County residents will get a chance to say whether medical marijuana operations should be banned in unincorporated parts of the county.

The county commissioners voted 4-1 Thursday to place the question on the November ballot. The decision comes after the commissioners postponed a vote from a meeting earlier this month.

Commissioner Jim Bensberg cast the only "no" vote, saying the commissioners should decide the issue.

Medical marijuana facilities would have until May 31, 2011, to close if voters approve a ban.

Colorado voters in 2000 approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes. A new state law imposes regulations of the industry and allows communities to ban the businesses.
