DENVER (AP) -- A woman convicted killing two Connecticut librarians in a drunken-driving crash has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Sandra Jacobson apologized to the victims' families before her sentencing Friday but a Denver District judge told her that she had taken too long to do so and called her blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash "grotesque."

Prosecutors say Jacobson's blood-alcohol level was still twice the legal limit several hours after the crash that killed Kate McClelland, 71, and Kathleen Krasniewicz, 54, both of Greenwich, Conn. They were in a taxi on their way to the airport to return home after a convention.

Jacobson was also ordered pay $22,000 in restitution. She was convicted on charges of vehicular homicide in April.
