Down economy means good deals for travelers
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Believe it or not, spring break is right around the corner, which means it is time to book a vacation.
If money is tight, experts say do not count yourself out. There are a lot of great deals to take advantage of
Hot spots that typically are not cheap this time of year are now incredibly affordable.
"What they are calling them are travel stimulus packages, just like what President Obama is doing with the economy. What these vendors and travel companies are doing is they are offering packages to get people traveling in this economy," travel manager Penny Kriss said.
Kriss, with Charlie Brown's GoodTime Travel, said anyone can take advantage of the packages, many of which include huge discounts.
"The resorts are all discounting between 10 and 15 percent on the room rates. Another couple things they are offering are free nights. Say for instance you book five nights, you get the fourth for free," Kriss said.
Kriss said a great place to travel right now is Mexico and added all-inclusive packages are the best deal.
She said you probably will not save on airfare due to rising gas prices.
"Florida is also a very good value. Actually Disney World and Disneyland are good values. They are offering all kinds of special packages," Kriss said.
If you are worried about booking in advance because you are not sure of a companies stability, Kriss said do not be.
"Most of the companies since 9/11 and a number of other different things that have happened in the industry over the past couple years have weeded out all of the unstable companies," Kriss said.
She said high school and college age spring breakers need to be especially careful when booking a vacation and added many companies will try to take advantage of that age group.
