* El Paso County Citizen Outreach Group is holding its annual volunteer appreciation event at the Pikes Peak Regional Development Center tonight. It begins at 5 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. Volunteers who serve on county boards, commissions, panels and advisory groups are invited. Location is 2880 International Circle, Colorado Springs.
* The 10th Annual " Whiskers and Wine" fundraiser gala is set for tonight to benefit Dreampower Animal Rescue. The event includes dinner, beverages, live and silent auctions and entertainment. Some of the auction items include a trip to New York including airfare and tickets to a Broadway show, a trip to Mexico or a 7-night Carnival cruise. The event will be held at the Pinery Event Center, 12375 Black Forest Road.
* Today is "Go Red for Women Education Day" in El Paso County. The event is to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Education Day is being held at the Antlers Hilton Hotel, 4 S. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs. Health screenings, cooking demonstrations, panel of medical experts and seminars begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 2:30 p.m.
* "Boo At the Zoo" begins this weekend at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The popular haunted house and the ghostly graveyard both return this year. The event features carnival games and Michael Collins' Magic Show. Admission is $15. Toddlers under age three are admitted free, as are senior citizens over age 65.
