Florence mayor resigns after alleged racial slurs

FLORENCE, COLO. (AP) -- Florence Mayor Ron Hinkle has resigned over allegations he used racial slurs at a city festival.

According to KRDO-TV, Hinkle cited medical problems for his resignation on Wednesday.

Witnesses say they saw Hinkle and his wife yelling at security guards, including one worker who was targeted with racial slurs when they weren't allowed re-entrance as the gates were closing.
