DENVER (AP) -- Democrats are welcoming Mitt Romney's new running mate to Colorado with some barbed attacks.
Congressman Paul Ryan is scheduled to appear at a rally in Lakewood Tuesday morning following his appearance at a fundraiser in Denver Monday evening.
At a news conference Monday, Democrat and Congressman Ed Perlmutter and others blasted Ryan as an out-of-touch conservative who would cut taxes on the wealthy and decimate government programs like Medicare.
Perlmutter said, "We welcome Paul to this state, but we know that his views are not consistent with the majority of people here."
In response, Republicans circulated a video of a former Democratic senator who co-chaired the president's deficit-reduction committee praising Ryan's intellect and seriousness. Ryan is a Republican leader on budget issues and presented a controversial spending plan this year.
