One killed in motorcycle accident in southeastern Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- One person was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle in southeastern Colorado Springs Monday morning.

Police said the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. in the area of Fountain Boulevard and Chelton Road. A Chevrolet Silverado was attempting to turn left from eastbound Fountain onto northbound Chelton when it collided with a Kawasaki motorcycle that was headed westbound on Fountain.

The motorcyclist, who has been identified as 31-year-old Chanse Sanderson of Colorado Springs, died on the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet and protective clothing.

The driver of the Silverado, 42-year-old Santana Ortiz of Colorado Springs, was served and released for traffic control signal legend, vehicles turning left, and careless driving causing death, which is a misdemeanor.

Police said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the accident.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours for the accident investigation. They reopened around 10 a.m.
