COLORADDO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Air Force Academy welcomed more than 1,300 new cadets on Thursday morning.

More than 1,000 are men and nearly 300 are women. Their average high school GPA is 3.86 with an average SAT score of 1294.

Wednesday marks the start of 38 days of basic cadet training including 12 days of field training in Tent City after marching to Jack's Valley.

Classes for the new 2009 school year begin August 6th.
