COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Event organizers for Territory Days this weekend faced a bump in the road when all the extension cords needed for the event were stolen.
Pro Promotions organizes Territory Days, and employees said someone broke into their truck Sunday while it was at Rockit West Mediaworks near Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle.
"We had it parked in front of the garage door right over there, and somebody cut the lock off the back, popped it open and proceeded to steal all the extension cords for every vendor down at Territory Days," Nick Cress, Owner of Rockit West Mediaworks, said.
Jim Wear, President of Pro Promotions and Organizer of Territory Days, said thousands of feet of cord were taken.
He added it will take a couple thousand dollars to replace what was stolen.
"They could take the cords and take them to a pawn shop or somewhere and sell them. More than likely, probably like a lot of the robberies that are happening around Colorado Springs, is that they intend to strip the copper wire out of the cords," Wear said.
But the thief or thieves may not make off as good as they think.
"There's probably you know 20 hours worth of work to strip the cords, and you're gonna end up with about $20 worth of copper at the end, so it doesn't quite make sense to me," Wear said.
Cress said he was hoping they could track the cords down.
"We called every scrap yard in town telling them we're looking for a big pile of extension cords," Cress said.
"If there is a pawn shop owners or people who have scrap yards that take this kind of thing in, if they kept an eye out for us you know we'd really appreciate it, we'd love to get this back," Wear said.
But with Territory Days just around the corner Wear said he couldn't wait, so he is now in the process of buying new extension cords.
"We have a 150,000 person festival coming this weekend, you know the biggest event in Colorado Springs, and we need to be moving forward not looking back," Wear said.
He called the theft "a bump in the road" and said Territory Days will go on as planned, and no one will notice.
"Territory Days is gonna go like it does every year, and it's gonna be a huge success this weekend," he said.
