COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Christmas is fewer than three months away, and one of southern Colorado's most well known holiday events needs your help.

The original Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway is looking for a venue to host this year's event.

Organizers said they had a building lined up for the 2011 giveaway, an old Kmart, but they said it was recently sold or rented.

So now they are searching for a new venue to host this year's massive giveaway.

They said in the past the local community has always come through and provided what they need.

"We have never 100-percent ran out, we always have enough for everybody," Bob's widow and foundation board member Carol Reinart said. "It always works out that way."

Reinart said when Bob died in 2006, she promised him she would continue with the giveaway.

She said what makes it unique is it is open to everyone, no questions asked.

"His belief always was if you are willing to wait in line and come in and ask for help, then you need help, no matter what the reason," Reinart said. "He did not want to be the judge of who should get things and who does not."

For this year's event, organizers are looking for a place that is about 25,000 square feet.

To make things easy for everyone who wants to attend, they said the building should be located on a major bus line downtown, or in the southern part of Colorado Springs, possibly along South Academy Boulevard.

Reinart said she is excited for what is to come because without the generosity of southern Colorado residents, Bob's dream would not be possible.

"I promised him we would keep it this way, you show up, you come in, you get everything," she said. "Please let us help you enjoy your Christmas."

The giveaway is in its 29th year.

It all started in 1982 as a joke when someone placed an ad in the Gazette saying Bob's business was giving away food.

Over the past 28 years the event has grown steadily, and in 2010 around 10,000 people received help, which included 500 bikes and 1,000 turkeys.

If you are interested in providing a venue, or would like to donate items, you can call The Bob Telmosse' Foundation at 719-646-0896 or log onto their website at www.santa-bob.org.
