DENVER (AP) -- Marijuana billboards and roadside sign spinners could be a thing of the past in Denver. The city council is taking up an ordinance to ban outdoor advertising for medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana businesses in Colorado's largest city currently compete for new patients with sign spinners, psychedelic billboards and promises of free joints and cheap prices on potent marijuana strains.

But some in the industry say the outdoor ads are unsavory and send the wrong impression. Others in the medical marijuana industry fear the ban goes too far limiting a business approved by Colorado voters more than a decade ago.
