Troopers: Man seriously injured in distracted driving crash in Otero County

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. - A man was seriously injured in a distracted driving crash in Otero County Tuesday evening, according to the Colorado State Patrol. 

Troopers said the crash happened around 5 p.m. on Highway 350. Daniel Rangel of Corpus Christi, Texas, was headed eastbound when he got distracted by an incoming message on his cellphone, according to troopers. He went off the right side of the road, tried to get back on the road, and rolled twice. He was ejected through the windshield and sustained serious injuries. 

Troopers said Rangel was not wearing his seatbelt. They said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
