Man seriously injured in crash west of Lamar

LAMAR, Colo. - Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash west of Lamar that left one man seriously injured.

Troopers say the crash happened Monday around 5:30 p.m. on Colorado 50 at milepost 428, about six miles west of Lamar.

Officials say 24-year-old Omar Ayala of Wiley was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 westbound on the highway when he went off the right side of the road and collided with a guardrail. The truck then continued westbound off the road before coming to rest about 28 feet from the road.

Ayala was taken to a hospital with serious bodily injuries. He and a passenger were not wearing seatbelts, according to authorities.

Right now officials say alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed are not factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
