Colorado Springs man dies after being pinned by own truck in driveway

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A man was killed after he got out of his truck to open a gate at a home northeast of Colorado Springs overnight, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers said the accident happened sometime between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Arrowhead Drive, which is northeast of the intersection of Powers Boulevard and Old Ranch Road. Troopers said Dodd Johnson, 53, stopped his Ford F350 at the entrance to the driveway and got out to open a metal gate leading to the property. While he was outside of the truck, it began to roll forward. Johnson tried to get back into the truck and was dragged about 45 feet while trying to stop it, according to troopers. The truck eventually hit a tree, pinning Johnson between the door and the frame of the truck.

Troopers are still investigating whether alcohol or drug use was a factor in the accident. They said it does not appear mechanical failure was a factor.
