CAÑON CITY, Colo. - A Cañon City woman was killed and four other people were injured in a three-car crash involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 50 Friday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. about a mile east of Cañon City. Troopers said a Nissan Altima was headed eastbound when the driver swerved to avoid a Subaru Forester that was headed westbound in the eastbound lanes. The Subaru crashed into the back of the Nissan, then crashed head-on into a Ford Fiesta that was also headed eastbound.
The front passenger of the Fiesta, 24-year-old Brieonna Samora of Cañon City, was taken to the hospital, where she died. The Fiesta's driver sustained serious injuries. A child sitting in the backseat sustained minor injuries.
Troopers said the driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries. The passenger sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the Altima was not injured.
Troopers are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
