Sheriff's office identifies man shot by officers during standoff

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (Feb. 14, 2018) - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect in connection with an officer-involved shooting in Colorado Springs on Friday, Feb. 9.

Officials say just after 4 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of South Cascade Avenue near W. Cheyenne Road. Authorities say the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Dennis Caldarelli, had barricaded himself inside the home, where the call had come from.

Authorities say Caldarelli then came outside armed with a weapon and shots were fired. Caldarelli was hit and taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

Caldarelli has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center on the charges of Intimidation of a Witness or Victim and False Imprisonment.

UPDATE (February 15, 2018): Police said the officer who fired the shots was Vijay Seenath, who has been with the department since 2012.
