Police looking for driver of SUV full of stolen electronics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Police are looking for a driver who led officers on a chase in an SUV full of stolen electronics Thursday morning.

Police said around 8:15 a.m., an officer tried to stop an SUV that had its license plate covered with a cloth. When the officer turned his lights on, the SUV sped away, heading northbound in the southbound lanes of Nevada Avenue near Brookside Street. When the driver tried to get back into the northbound lanes, he lost control and hit a curb, then a building.

The driver ran away, leaving two passengers in the SUV, according to police. Police conducted a K9 search, but could not find the driver.

Police searched the SUV and found it was full of electronics that had been stolen from various Walmarts in the Colorado Springs area.

Police arrested one of the passengers, Jonathan Ortega, on an unrelated felony warrant. The other passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
