Police release name of suspect killed by officers after pulling gun

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The man who was shot and killed after he drew a gun during a fight with Colorado Springs police over the weekend has been identified.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Christopher Louis Willard was resisting arrest by Colorado Springs police officers on Saturday around 6 p.m. in the area of Nevada Avenue and Navajo Street. Officials said police were arresting Willard on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for theft.

Authorities said Willard pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officers. He was shot and taken to the hospital, where he died. Police later determined the gun was a BB pistol. 

Police said the two officers involved were Christopher Fernandes, who has been with the department for three years, and Tracy Toth, who has been with the department for two years. 

The sheriff's office is currently reviewing body-worn camera footage as part of the investigation.
