Man shot, killed by police after drawing handgun during fight

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A man was shot and killed after he drew a handgun during a fight with Colorado Springs police officers Saturday night, according to the sheriff's office. 

it happened around 6:20 p.m. in the area of South Nevada Avenue and East Navajo Street. Deputies said the shooting happened while officers were trying to take the suspect into custody for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The suspect resisted, and a fight ensued. At some point during the fight, the suspect pulled out a handgun and was shot, according to deputies. 

The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died. His name has not yet been released.

The officers involved sustained minor injuries, but were treated and released.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is taking over the investigation. The officers involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.
