The chief medical officer for the U.S. Olympic Team will be on hand Tuesday as the employees get vaccines for the swine flu virus. A spokesman for the U.S. Olympic Committee says that athletes competing next month have already been offered swine flu vaccines.

The state Department of Public Health and Environment reported 14 flu-related hospitalizations last week, although that number could rise if any late reports come in. The number of new hospitalizations has stayed below 20 since the week of Dec. 6. One flu-related death was reported last week, bringing the total to 59 this season.

Children 9 years old and younger who received a first dose and need their second dose are encouraged to call the Health Department to schedule an appointment. Health Department officials recommend 28 days between doses, yet 21 days since the first dose is also acceptable. The number to call to schedule an appointment for second dose is 719-583-4440.
