Natural-gas production rose by 4.4 percent last year to 1.6 trillion cubic feet. That's according to the Colorado Oil and Gas conservation commission. The Commission says oil production was up 1.6 percent to 28.9 million barrels.

Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission Director Dave Neslin says much of the current problem is due to a backlog of permits filed to beat new state regulations. He says the average wait has dropped to about 50 days.
