Colorado Springs Utilities said homes that are lit with LED Christmas lights can save up to 90 percent on energy costs compared to those that are decorated with traditional lights.

Residents in Colorado Springs have been reporting a deer with a tangle of Christmas lights wrapped in its antlers. Neighbors have tried to chase the buck to remove the lights, with no success. State wildlife officials say it's not unusual for deer to get tangled in outdoor decorations.

Forty thousand lights are put up on a single home and it’s all in hope to raise money for children in need. Joe Damewood started this tradition three years ago when he was in high school to raise money for Compassion International. The charity's mission is to eliminate poverty for children around the world. So far he's raised $5,000.

City officials say they've installed permanent high-efficiency LED light panels on city buildings that are lit up for the holidays. The city says it will save $180,000 a year by not having to put the lights up each fall and then take them down after the holidays. The switch to 2,000 feet of rope LED lights cost the city $275,000.

On Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, customers can bring in their old working or non-working holiday light strings to be recycled and receive a $3 off coupon towards the purchase of energy efficient seasonal light-emitting diodes (LED) string lights.
