What happened to the Terrible Twos? I must have missed that part when we got the Owner's Manual. Don't get me wrong, little man is a delight. We have been so lucky. How many three year olds do you know can recognize all 32 NFL teams by the logo? But recently, he has decided to become his own "man".
For nearly two weeks during the holidays, my wife and I got the distinct pleasure of smothering our child. He is a kid that is used to routine. He goes to school two days a week, he goes to his Grammy and Papa's two days, and with his friends the other. He hangs with Dad in the morning, Mom at night. All of a sudden, "vacation" comes, and he is out of rhythm. Add in Christmas craziness, staying up until 12:45 a.m. New Year's Eve, and you have a mess.
He plays this new game where he just looks away and won't respond when you ask him something. Great fun this is. I don't want him to learn that he can't ignore his parents, but how do you punish him? Put him in "Time Out", and it's a wrestling match. Take his toys away, he laughs. I am in a pickle.
Naps used to be a big part of his life, and ours. But for some reason, he decides to forego them when he is around both of us. I understand this is a part of life with a preschooler and they eventually drop them altogether. Fine. But the second he gets in the car, he's out. And if you choose to stay at home, the Grinch rolls in. Good stuff.
