Are dogs better in pairs?
My husband and I are thinking about getting another dog, a brother or sister for Marshal. I do not think he minds getting all our attention all the time, but I have heard that dogs do better in pairs. Also, I think it would be a good distraction for him while we are at work during the day.
We will probably wait a few more months, that is until we get a house or bigger place with a backyard. But in the meantime, we have been looking around to see what we might be interested in. My husband of course wants a big dog. Marshal is somewhat of a Momma's boy, so I think he wants a dog that will rough house, roll in the mud, stick his head out the window and run around in the snow without freezing to death.
So far we have looked at a number of breeds. Labs, golden retrievers, boxers, bulldogs, rottweilers, and huskies to name a few. Does anyone know what kind of big dog would be good with a little guy like Marshal? Also, is it better to pair a male with a male... or a male with a female? Marshal has been fixed, so we should not have a problem with you know what. Or, should we just get another Dachshund? I have hard they are great in pairs and we could always get a bigger one.
Any input would be very helpful. Oh yeah, my husband and I do plan on having children in the future, so we need a dog that is also good with kids.
Until next time have a great week everyone and be careful driving in the snow tonight and tomorrow!!!
