The third member of my family
I have a two-year-old Dachshund named "Marshal." His hair is red and black and he is a miniature, although my husband and I think he may have been a runt because he only weighs seven pounds. We feed him all the time, but he just does not seem to gain weight. We know for sure he is healthy, so I guess he is just a little guy.
Anyways, Marshal is my first pet ever. Growing up we did not have dogs or cats, so when I got married and my husband suggested we get a dog I was totally against it. Now though, I can not imagine my life without him. We do not have any kids yet, so he gets all our attention.
Dauchsunds are a funny breed. If you have one you can probably relate. Marshal loves to be next to me and my husband. We can not leave a room with out him following us, and when we sit down he has to be on our lap or next to our legs. He also loves to give kisses and snuggle. One of his favorite things to do is hide under blankets. He will burrow his way down the covers and fall asleep. I think he likes the warmth and the darkness. Although I wonder how he does not suffocate.
As for his personality, well that is hard to explain. Sometimes I think he is a human in dog form. I can tell when he is mad, sad, happy, tired and lonely. He is definitely a worry wart. When my husband and I are walking around the apartment, or putting on our shoes, or getting ready for work, Marshal begins to shake like a rattle. Every little muscle in his body trembles and his eyes glare over as if he is going to cry. All I can think is he is getting nervous that we are going to leave for awhile, even though he knows we are always going to come back.
