FREMONT COUNTY, COLO. -- Fremont County Sheriff's deputies said a dust devil damaged carports near school buildings Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., a large dust devil came from east of the Fremont County Head Start facility south of Canon City and swirled around the school buildings, according to school employees.

The dust tornado then hit three 40-foot long metal school bus carport covers near Highway 115 and Brookside Avenue. Two of them were pulled out of the ground and flew several hundred feet, landing in a field northeast of the school.
