PUEBLO, COLO. -- Police in Pueblo are warning residents of a phone scam involving energy bills.
The scam, according to police, happens when an unidentified person calls and informs a resident that they are with their electric company. The person then says they will shut the electricity off unless a specified amount of money is send to them. The payment, according to the person on the phone, cannot be a credit card or check and must be paid through King Soopers or Walgreens.

According to police, residents should not provide information to anyone who calls. Most of the major companies will be able to provide to you your information without having to ask for it.
Black Hills Energy sends out to notices by mail and makes a phone notice before services are shut off. The company also accepts credit cards and checks.
