COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers arrested two people early Monday morning for a string of vandalism and car burglary cases.
The incidents started when a neighbor chased away Candice Ramos and Randy Winter as they were peering into cars on West Monument Street around 1:41 a.m. Minutes later, they broke into a car nearby and used a garage door opener to open a neighbor's garage. The homeowner woke up to the sound of the door opening and was able to get a look at their car, a silver PT Cruiser.
Minutes later, officers responded to a disturbance call at a 7-Eleven store on West Colorado Avenue where two men were trying to force a woman into a silver PT Cruiser. Officers said the car and direction of travel matched what the neighbor reported about Ramos and Winter's actions.
Officers stopped the car a short distance away and saw box cutters, a grill lighter and electronics in plain sight. A witness identified the two as the same people he saw slashing tires on his street earlier.
Ramos and Winter had also set three cars on fire earlier in the night and broke into several others, stealing the items officers found during the traffic stop.
Officers said anyone who may have been a victim of the vandalism or burglaries in the area between Superior Street and 25th Street and Willamette Avenue and Monument Street to call them at (719) 444-7000.
