COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Some Colorado Springs golfers are in need of some help with their game after dozens of golf clubs go missing at a local course.

In the past month around 20 sets of clubs have been stolen from the men's locker room at Patty Jewett Golf Course.

"I have no way of knowing how many have actually been stolen but it's enough to make us really concerned about it and start stepping up our action," Dal Lockwood, Golf Manager, said.

Lockwood said he thinks the thief or thieves are using a crow bar to pry open locked lockers and take what's inside.

"I can only assume that it's at night. The problem with some of the thefts is that people come out and play golf on Saturday but won't be back for another week." Lockwood said since it may take days before someone even realizes the clubs are gone it makes it hard to track down when the crimes occur.

Lockwood said the cost of clubs can range from $50 to $2,000 but he said he knows it's not just about the money.

"We all play golf and we understand the value of the clubs and we also understand that you work a long time to get those clubs to feel just right and when somebody takes them they're taking more than your clubs they're taking your game," he said.

The golf course has taken steps to prevent more thefts like posting signs, having their lockers looked at by a lock and safe company, and notifying the Colorado Springs Police.

"We're taking all the steps that we can to get this fixed. Patty Jewett is still a safe and fun place to play golf, it's a wonderful asset to the city, it's a wonderful place to be. We're going to take care of this and we are taking care of this," Lockwood said.

The course said they have also ordered security cameras which will be installed in the next seven to ten days.
