COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- One day after 53-year-old Terry O'Dell was rushed to the hospital from a brutal attack with a hammer, his nephew 30-year-old Dennis O'Dell is behind bars on attempted murder charges.
According to arrest documents released Friday, it was an argument over buying meth that lead to the assault.
Thursday afternoon, Terry had given Dennis and another man named Mark $120 to buy a "teener", 16th of an ounce, of meth.
Mark and Dennis would have had to go to Pueblo to buy it, but Dennis was afraid of Mark.
There was no specific reason why Dennis was scared, he just said Mark had a "bad vibe" but his uncle told him to go anyways.
So, Dennis armed himself with a hammer and called 911, reporting that Mark was trying to break in and had already broken a window.
We now know that was a lie meant to get police on the scene faster.
By this point, Dennis had locked the front and back doors of the home on the 3600 block of Agate Dr.
Then, Terry O'Dell demanded to know what was going on, as he went to let Mark inside the house Dennis said if he opened the door he would kill him and hit Terry with the hammer three times
Dennis later telling police "I hit him really good that time."
Dennis is being held on $100,000 bond.
Terry is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital.
