GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (AP) -- Mesa County authorities are warning businesses they are cracking down on bath salts that are being abused like drugs.

Earlier this year, authorities said a 19-year-old Grand Junction man who was acting violently under the influence of a substance marketed as bath salts was strangled when his friends tried to subdue him. Friends took him to a hospital, where he died.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, prosecutors are sending letters to businesses warning authorities plan to begin enforcing a new Colorado law banning possession and sale of the products.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has issued an emergency order banning three stimulants commonly used to make bath salts that produce an effect similar to cocaine.
