Suthers was scheduled for a debate Wednesday against lawyer Robert Corry, who defends marijuana dispensaries and says Colorado puts up too many barriers for medical marijuana patients.

Sen. Sal Pace, a Democrat from Pueblo, says he'll try to amend proposed medical marijuana regulations Monday to allow the practice. The amendment would require people to get a recommendation from a psychiatrist before they would be allowed to qualify for medical marijuana.

Police say a man was fatally shot in the head just after midnight Tuesday at a residence in northeast Denver. The suspected gunman was also shot. A police spokesman said the two men were "conducting a medical marijuana transaction." The shooting wasn't at a dispensary.
