Questions & Answers
Question

What is orthodontics?

Answer

Orthodontics treat improperly positioned teeth. Using braces, arch expansion appliances and functional appliances, orthodontic treatment applies gentle pressure to move teeth to their desired position. Treatment may take several months or several years depending on the nature of the problem. The new and advanced Damon System greatly reduces treatment time and the number of appointments. Question

Could I benefit from adult orthodontics?

Answer

Orthodontics is not just for kids. If you have a bite problem or are unhappy about gaps, or crooked and protruding teeth, you may benefit from orthodontics. Today many adults request less conspicuous, clear braces. Braces indentifies you as someone who knows the value of a great smile! Properly aligned teeth and jaws are critical at any age to help protect against deterioration and tooth loss due to gum disease and to avoid the painful symptoms of Jaw Joint Disorder. Question

What can I do about my poorly spaced, stained, chipped or crooked teeth?

Answer

Veneers could be your answer. Veneers are strong, thin shells of acrylic resin or porcelain, which are bonded to the front of your teeth. Resin veneers are typically less expensive than porcelain, but unlike porcelain veneers, may darken or stain over time. You should check in advance if your insurance covers veneers. Veneers can often be applied in just two office visits. Dental Marketing Inc.

Question

What are bridges?

Answer

Bridges are artificial replacements for a lost tooth or teeth. A bridge may be used in combination with dental implants, crowns or inlays. They usually can be finished with two office visits. Bridges are not just for looks; they plan an important part in healthy teeth and gums. Dental Marketing Inc.

Question

What should I do with my weakened teeth?

Answer

Crowns could restore your weakened teeth. Crowns are usually made out of porcelain or metal alloys and help to strengthen and protect your teeth. Your natural crown is the part of your tooth that is visible above the gum. The replacement crown is a cover placed over a weakened or decayed tooth. It is often necessary when a tooth has a large filling that has deteriorated. Dental Marketing Inc.

Question

What can I do about jaw pain, headaches, earaches, or inability to open wide?

Answer

A jaw joint disorder may be the cause. TMJ is a misalignment of the upper and lower jaws. It is aggravated by stress and is often the result of chronic jaw clenching and grinding. When the jaw is not working properly it can cause muscle spasms, ear pain, neck pain and headaches. You may notice a popping sound or clicking noise when you open and close your mouth. If the pain is tolerable, a patient can take Ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Simply switching which side one sleeps on can help ease the pain. The doctor can determine if a custom fit night guard is needed to interrupt clenching and grinding habits at night. As a last resort, TMJ surgery may be considered. Dental Marketing Inc.

Question

What is endodontics?

Answer

Endodontics is also called root canal therapy. When a tooth is damaged by decay or injury, the canals inside the root can become infected. Infected teeth can be very painful and if left untreated, it can lead to severe pain, abscess and tooth loss. Root canals are one of the most successful of all dental procedures. Question

How can I get a whiter, brighter smile?

Answer

Achieve it with whitening. We offer three forms of whitening; professional strength Crest Whitestrips not available in over-the-counter applications; bleach trays which are somewhat more costly, but refills can be purchased at a lower cost than the Whitestrips; and In-House bleaching. The right option for you will depend on the severity of discoloration; contact us today for more details about your whitening options.

Question

What is gum disease?

Answer

Early symptoms of gum disease are often painless, which makes regular dental exams crucial. Gum disease is an infection caused by bacteria in plaque. It attacks the bone, ligaments and gums that support the teeth. Early symptoms are red, puffy gums that bleed when brushed or flossed. As infection progresses, space may appear between your teeth, gums may recede and teeth may loosen. Without treatment periodontal disease may lead to tooth loss. Dental Marketing Inc.
