U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. -- Citing budgetary concerns, the Air Force Academy announced on Wednesday that it is canceling its annual community July 4th celebration.

The celebration is normally held at Falcon Stadium but because of financial concerns from the sequestration, it is being canceled.

Officials said they hope this celebration returns in 2014.

"Faced with so many uncertainties about the future budget, we have to look at ways to save money," Lt. Col. John Bryan, Director of Public Affairs at the Academy, said. "But for now, we've had to cut back on many things we normally would support. The City of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region are our family, and we look forward to getting this and other events back on track in 2014."

Already this year, the Academy canceled all aviation support to public events for the remainder of the 2013 fiscal year. That means the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team will be grounded in order to save hours.
