Question What makes Falcon School District 49 better than other school districts? Answer District 49 is proud to offer every student an outstanding education. The district provides a diverse range of engaging, relevant programs and learning strategies. Remarkable educators work with each student to reach his or her potential, utilizing innovative teaching practices and integrating 21st century skills and technology. District 49’s high performing schools are also supported by an engaged community. We invite you to visit any of our schools (d49.org -> Our Schools) to see the extraordinary things taking place in District 49 classrooms. Question What are “zones” and how do they work? Answer District 49 has divided schools into four separate innovation zones: Falcon Zone, POWER Zone, Sand Creek Zone and iConnect Zone. Each zone provides a cohesive, educationally aligned K-12 learning environment for students. The zones have the autonomy to make decisions based on the needs of students within the zone community. Each innovation zone (d49.org -> Our Schools) offers individualized programming and learning opportunities for students. This model allows education to be dynamic, meeting the needs of our 21st century learners. Question Why a year-round school calendar? Answer District 49 considers educational benefits and community input when developing the school year calendar. Calendars are developed by committees made up of teachers and administrators, along with parent survey feedback. Our community has long advocated for the extended school year with two-week breaks throughout the year. Our innovation leaders are currently researching options outside the traditional school year calendar to best meet the needs of students.
