COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- You have seen them around town or at your front door, and you have definitely enjoyed their cookies a time or two.

So when you think of the Girl Scouts -- you may think of cookies, but they only sell them once a year. Instead, words like dedication and leadership should be top of mind for all the great things they do with the rest of their time.

Fox 21's Craig Coffey found out how much more and reminds us, don't forget -- the cookies are really good too!

It's that time of year once again when we spoil ourselves in tasty treats with names like Samoas, Tagalongs and Do-Si-Dos.

Well, believe it or not - girl scouts are about much more than just cookies. They are about great things all year round like volunteering, charity and even helping support our military serving overseas with "Operation gratitude." Girl Scouts of America are working to send boxes and boxes and more boxes of cookies to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. All this made possible with your donations and their long hours of hard work and devotion to cause greater than themselves.

Last year they sent more than 40,000 boxes. This year the bar has been set even higher to send more.

So how much will they send this year?

As part of their growth -- they know how to facilitate a group, they know how to organize a meeting, they can create structure and organization, they can create a goal and they know how to achieve it.

So next time you see these young ladies as you enter a store or answer the knock at your front door, remember the big picture and how hard they work for all the right reasons -- and how you could be supporting the leaders of tomorrow.

This year's new cookie is the "Thank-U-Berry Munch." When girl scouts participate in the annual cookie activity, they are part of the largest girl-led business in the country that generates more than 700-million for girls and communities nationwide.
